Xbox One: Thoughts?

So the Xbox One was announced yesterday, what does everyone think of it?

Here's an article about it: http://www.theverge....ou-need-to-know

Here's an article about what some writers of a cool gaming blog think about it: http://bluesungames....ofts-next-xbox/

Here's a gif that sums up the media event (codfish is not a game):

And here's what I think about it:

It sucks.

No backwards compatibility with 360 games (like come on Microsoft, you can't build a good emulator or some shit?), the specs are catching up with 2010's decent gaming PCs (I understand comparing a console to a PC is unfair, but I'm talking about specs here), and it seems Microsoft wants you to use the Xbox for everything - TV, videos, games, Skype, basically making it into the home set top box Bill Gates dreamed up in his 1995 book, The Road Ahead. Cool stuff, but I use an PC for all of that and more, and I don't have to pay to play online multiplayer.

Maybe I'm just a hardcore PC nerd and I'm judging it unfairly, but the Xbox One just seems like another deflated balloon from Microsoft, like with Windows 8 earlier this year/last year (though I do kind of like Win 8, it just has technical issues I couldn't resolve).

And to compare it to other consoles coming out, the non-existent PS4 and the Wii U also suck, so as far as I'm concerned this year is the final year for consoles and the beginning of dumb companies trying to build ultimate entertainment devices and dominate your living room with stuff that all does the same thing as the other company's.

Curious to see what other people think.

Adobe Creative Cloud: Will you use it?

Adobe's popular suite of applications include Photoshop, which is widely agreed upon to be the best graphics editing software, Illustrator, also a graphics editor but focused on drawing and vectors, and their terrible web editor for noobs which no one should use, Dreamweaver.

However, the software has always been super expensive, and now Adobe wants you to pay per month for that software.

I think it's a major waste of money and I'm hoping free alternatives like GIMP finally become as good as Photoshop so I won't have to pay that garbage monthly fee.

Would you buy a phone running Firefox OS?

So yeah, the first Firefox OS phones have been sold, and I think now is the time to talk about this.

Firefox OS is one of Mozilla's many fragmented projects which is basically a Linux kernel set to open a fullscreen version of Firefox on boot. And the webpages it's set to open are nicely designed interactive HTML5 and CSS3 pages, but it's all still done inside a browser.

A cool idea I guess, but given Firefox's known performance problems, especially on mobile, this isn't very promising.

Where Firefox OS will (or might) really shine is the apps, which you can make easily with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, so it's really easy to start making apps for the platform.

Overall I don't think Firefox OS will be very successful, but I do want to test out a device running it.

What do you guys think of it?

What's your favorite website(s)?

I don't have any favorites right now, but one I used to visit was this one:
(you need flash player for this one).

If you check Wiki for Subservient Chicken, you'll see that it was a Burger King promotion. The way it works is you enter a command and the man dressed in a chicken suit responds (Wiki says there's over 300 commands and lists about 100 of them. You can add kiss the floor to the list).

To mention there were at least two other command websites, one with two barmaids and the other with an Asian Indian running his small store.

Video games and violence

Bit of a touchy topic here, which I hate starting, but I think it's time we discuss this issue.

Do video games cause/influence violence?

My personal opinion is that they don't, I believe there's more serious issues with mass murderers who were known for playing violent video games than just that fact. I think there has to be some major psychological issues and/or maybe drugs/mind altering substances involved altogether before they actually go murder people.

And some people I know have made the argument that video games train them to kill. Well, from my personal experience from shooting clay pigeons and other crap, it's a whole lot different to shoot the real damn thing than to move the mouse around a bit and click. I mean come on.

So, what's your opinion?
