Last month I was looking at our domain and I think it's pretty long. 19 characters is a lot in my opinion. Not only that, but I've seen people head over to the .com extension of the domain name, which btw happens to be only $1,895. Pretty cheap don't you think? :cool2:

So, to rectify these issues, I propose a domain and name change. I played with a lot of ideas, such as dropping the whole enigma name altogether, but none of the names I came up with were catchy or worth using. I then decided that, if MineBoard.org is a partner site, why not match them with the name a bit?

EnigmaBoard. Catchy.

So what do you think? Should we change domains and the name? Vote in the poll!

I think so as a .org doesn't even fit the forum at all. It's not even an organization :cool2: Yeah, I like the TLD EnigmaBoard.com :D

Well, .com is commercial, this isn't exactly a commercial site. By your logic, Lucky, we should go with .net because this is more of a "network". However, I can assure you that most people on the internet (me, for example), don't care about the TLD, as long as you have one. The most used, and therefore the "best", is obviously .com due to it's popularity. And, I would go with .net as your secondary. But, in the end it doesn't matter, just snag the .com if you can. Now, on topic... This domain, I agree, is much too long. I say move away from Enigma completely and start with a new name, (and possibly design? :cool2: ) so we can find a nice short domain, and then keep that.

Remember, switching domains this much isn't good. I think this is something like our 3rd domains, and I still remember us as the Enigmachs. You loose a lot of SEO leverage everytime you switch, so let's make this the last switch, move away from Enigma, and get a good domain. Take time in considering this.

:D

Thing is I already bought the domains before announcing this, as I didn't want anybody to steal them after I announced it :/

I had a couple really unique names that nobody had come up with yet, but I don't think they fit the forum at all and could be hard to communicate due to how they're spelled.

I just did a search under "computer forum" and you know what? This website doesn"t show up on the first ten pages and it's my understanding that the website order is based on their popularity. Normally a name has to be clear and interesting to draw visitors so I'm with Luke on this one.

I'm not going to suggest names. Rather I suggest doing a Google search under computer forum, go through the list and see if you can draw inspiration. And if you need a longer name to get the job done, then I'm with you.

Tbh, I'm sick of the Enigma stuff, just get a better domain. And seriously, little paranoid?

Necessary precaution. I've had people rush to register domains I was going to register just so they could sell them to me at four times the price.

So I think we're going to move to this domain really soon, last chance to get your vote in.

Would we need to reregister for the new domain?

Nope, all data will stay the same. The only thing that will really change will be the domain, and the old domain will take you to the new one.
You will have to log in, though.
